Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently took to social media to reflect on the closing months of 2024, describing them as ā€œdifficultā€ for many people—comments widely interpreted as a nod to the outcome of the November election. ā€œI know it’s been a difficult few months for so many of us — and folks are feeling a little bit anxious and uncertain,ā€ she wrote. ā€œBut this holiday season, there are plenty of reasons to stay hopeful.ā€ She went on to highlight the ongoing work of the Obama Foundation, especially its efforts to support young changemakers around the world.

Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama made headlines during his appearance at the 2024 Democracy Forum hosted by the Obama Foundation. In his remarks, he criticized the Republican Party for actions he claimed undermine democratic norms, including attempts to manipulate the judiciary and politicize government institutions. ā€œPluralism depends on everyone following a certain set of rules,ā€ Obama said. ā€œWhat happens when the other side has repeatedly and abundantly made clear they are not interested in playing by the rules?ā€

At one point, Obama appeared to hesitate mid-sentence, stating, ā€œThere are going to be times potentially when one side tries to stack the deck and lock in [pause] a permanent grip on power.ā€ Some commentators and conservative figures seized on the moment, suggesting the pause revealed more than intended. Actor Kevin Sorbo remarked that Obama ā€œalmost broke character,ā€ while commentator Collin Rugg called the pause ā€œtelling.ā€

Critics also accused the former president of hypocrisy, arguing that the Biden administration has been guilty of the very actions Obama condemned. They pointed to concerns about the politicization of the Justice Department and military under Democratic leadership.

In the wake of President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race—following a widely criticized debate performance—reports have surfaced suggesting Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi played a key role in persuading him to step aside. Hollywood actor George Clooney, who publicly supported Biden’s withdrawal in a summer op-ed, is said to be frustrated with Obama for retreating from the spotlight after the election. ā€œGeorge feels duped and vows he’s not going to be anyone’s political water boy anymore,ā€ a source close to the actor told RadarOnline.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost her bid for the presidency, is reportedly weighing her next political move. According to CNN’s Isaac Dovere, Harris has told close allies that she is considering a run for California governor in 2026 or even a second presidential campaign in 2028. Sources say she does not want her political legacy to end with her 2024 loss to Donald Trump.

ā€œWe haven’t seen or heard much from Vice President Kamala Harris since she lost the election last month,ā€ CNN’s Manu Raju reported. ā€œBut the Democratic Party is still reeling from Trump’s victory.ā€
